SEWING AND QUILTING

Butler's Sewing Center specializes in Singer sewing machines, although they will repair most other brands. The cabinets and heads of machines are sold separately. Butler's has several of the most popular sewing machine cabinets in the store but can order any other style you might prefer.

A top-of-the-line Singer sewing machine might have such features as 100 stitches, a quilter extension table for support of heavy quilt fabric, automatic needle up-and-down control, automatic needle threader, even feeder for quilting, six different buttonhole shapes and sizes, and a one-step, fully automatic buttonholer.

Butler's carries hundreds of fabrics for all occasions: quilt fabrics, bridal, dress/suit/coat, fleece, felt, crafts, holidays and special occasions such as Halloween, Christmas, and fall. Butterick in-stock patterns are always half price, and See'n'Sew patterns are economically priced with 100 patterns available at $2.99 each. While you're in the store, get your sewing notions, buttons, lace, bindings, and thread to coordinate with your fabric.

SEWING AND QUILTING CLASSES

Sewing classes are available in 6 sessions, 2 hours a day. Shirley works with a maximum of 6 students in order to provide one-on-one attention. She teaches basic to intermediate sewing classes and works with her students on their individual level. A basic class may include a blouse, skirt, or jumper.

Shirley teaches twice as many quilting classes as she does basic sewing classes. The class is comprised of 6-8 all-day sessions. Shirley teaches all levels of difficulty. Ask to see some examples! The beginner level often uses the log cabin pattern or easier Christmas wall hanging. Other examples of popular quilt patterns include blind geese, dress and plate, sunbonnet Sue (an appliquéd pattern), star log cabin, Irish chain (also single, double or triple), trip around the world, and a variety of Christmas wall hangings. Another popular project is the "Quillow," a small quilt that wraps up to form a pillow.
